Frequently asked questions

Questions, answered

The things merchants ask us most, about scanning, checkout, tax, inventory, and getting found online.

Does Taplo work with a barcode scanner?

Yes. Taplo works with 2D barcode scanners that connect to your tablet or computer. You can scan products in when you receive inventory, and scan them again at checkout when you ring up a sale. Scanners read both standard product barcodes and Taplo QR labels.

Can I scan with my phone or tablet camera instead?

You can, but a dedicated 2D scanner is much faster and is what we recommend for busy checkout. Camera scanning works well as a backup when a scanner is not handy.

How fast is checkout?

Taplo is built to keep scanning and checkout quick, even when your connection is not perfect. Real-world speed also depends on your own setup, the scanner you use, the device it runs on, and your internet connection, so a solid scanner and a stable connection make the biggest difference. We share recommended hardware so you can set up for speed.

Can I set different tax rates for different products?

Yes. Every product can carry its own tax rate, a special rate, or no tax at all. When a customer buys a mix of products in one order, each item is taxed by its own rate and the cart total updates automatically to reflect the mix.

Can I manage inventory across more than one location?

Yes. Taplo tracks stock separately for each location, so you always know what is on hand and where. It is built for businesses that run more than one store, stand, or site.

Can I move stock from a warehouse to a store or stand?

Yes. You can transfer inventory between your locations, for example from a central warehouse out to a stand or store, and each location's counts update as stock moves.

Can customers order online for curbside or pickup?

Yes. Customers can order from your online store and choose curbside or pickup at a participating location. What they can order for pickup reflects the stock actually available at that location, so they only see and buy what is really there.

Can customers find my products by brand?

Yes. You can organize products by brand, filter by brand inside Taplo, and let shoppers filter by brand on your online store. Your storefront is also built to be search friendly, so customers searching online for a specific brand can find that you carry it.

Can I print price tags and product labels?

Yes. You can print product and price labels, including QR labels customers can scan for product details. Labels print on standard thermal label stock.

What if my internet connection drops during a busy day?

A stable connection matters most during your busiest times. Many checkout slowdowns come down to weak wifi or a shaky network on site, so we recommend a strong connection and can suggest hardware to help you stay online, including devices with cellular. Taplo is also built to keep scanning quick so your setup is not the thing holding you back.

Do you offer devices with cellular (eSIM)?

Yes. Cellular-capable device options are available, so you can stay connected even where wifi is weak. You can turn cellular on for your busy season and off when you are finished. Reach out for current device options.

Booking FAQs: availability, changes, and waitlists

How do customers book an appointment?

Customers open your booking link, choose a service and available staff member or resource, select a time, and complete the required details and payment step. See the illustrated online booking guide.

Can a booking be rescheduled or canceled?

Use the available options in the booking confirmation, or contact the business if those options are unavailable. Staff can open the booking on the calendar to make supported changes. Cancellation deadlines and charges depend on the business's policy.

Can staff add a walk-in or phone booking?

Yes. Create the booking for the customer on the shared calendar so it is included in availability.

What if no suitable time is available?

Use the waitlist where offered, giving the preferred service, staff member or resource, and acceptable times. An opening is not reserved until a booking is confirmed. See reminders and waitlists.

Invoice FAQs: payment status and outstanding balances

How do customers pay an invoice?

Open the invoice sent by the business and use the available payment options. Contact the sender if the invoice details or balance are incorrect.

What do invoice statuses mean?
  • Draft: not yet sent.
  • Sent: awaiting payment.
  • Partial: some of the balance remains.
  • Paid: settled.
  • Overdue: past its due date.
Why is there still a balance after a deposit or partial payment?

A deposit or partial payment may not cover the full amount. Staff should check recorded payments and the current balance before requesting any additional payment.

Can an invoice be resent?

Staff can open the invoice to resend it using the available options. Confirm the customer's contact details and current balance first.

What if I already paid?

Ask the business to check the invoice's payment history before paying again. Provide the invoice reference and receipt, but never send full card details by email or chat.

See the illustrated invoice guide.

Membership FAQs: enrollment, benefits, and billing

How do customers join a membership?

Choose a plan through the business's enrollment flow, provide the required details and payment information, review the terms, and complete any required agreement or signature.

Where can members find their plan and billing information?

Use the member portal to review membership details, benefits, and billing information. See enrollment and the member portal.

Are household members included?

This depends on the selected plan. Review its benefits and any household-member requirements before enrolling.

What happens if a recurring payment fails?

Update the payment method through the secure member experience and follow the business's recovery instructions. Staff should confirm the payment result and membership status before applying benefits. See failed-payment recovery.

Can a membership be canceled or changed?

Review the plan's cancellation and change terms and contact the business for help. Do not assume every plan has the same notice period, refund policy, or benefit rules.

Payment FAQs: deposits, cards on file, and no-shows

Does booking always require full payment?

No. A service may require a card on file, a deposit, or payment in full. Review the payment summary before confirming.

Is keeping a card on file the same as paying?

No. Saving payment details does not mean the full service price has been paid. Check the booking's payment record to see what was actually collected.

Does a deposit reduce the balance due?

Yes. A booking deposit is applied toward the final balance. Staff should verify prior payments before collecting the remainder.

Will a cancellation or no-show trigger a charge?

That depends on the business's published policy and the booking terms. Review them before booking, and contact the business about a specific charge or refund.

What should I do if payment fails?

Check the payment details and try a valid payment method. Do not create a duplicate booking just to pay the same balance.

See the illustrated booking payments and deposits guide.

Rental FAQs: agreements, security holds, and returns

What is required before equipment can be collected?

Confirm the reservation details, review and sign the rental agreement, and complete the required payment and security-hold steps. The business should verify these before handing over equipment.

Is a security hold the rental charge?

No. A security hold is a card authorization separate from the rental charge. Review the agreement for how it may be released or used for authorized charges.

When is the security hold released?

The business reviews the returned equipment and resolves any charges under the agreement. The time until released funds appear available can depend on the card issuer; do not assume immediate availability.

What happens if equipment is late, damaged, or missing?

Contact the rental business promptly. Late fees or other charges depend on the signed terms and the return inspection.

Can I extend a rental?

Contact the business before the scheduled return time to check availability and any additional charges. Do not assume an extension is confirmed until the business agrees.

See rental agreements and holds and returns and closing a rental.

Rewards FAQs: earning, redemption, and expiration

How do customers earn rewards?

Rewards depend on the business's configured program, such as eligible visits or spending. Identify the customer on the purchase so progress goes to the correct account.

How is a reward redeemed?

Select an available reward, check its eligible items or value limit, and apply it to an eligible order. Complete the order to record the redemption.

Why is progress or a reward missing?

First check that the purchase was attached to the correct customer and met the program's earning rules. Ask the business to review the purchase if the balance still looks wrong.

Do rewards expire?

Expiration depends on the program settings and the reward's terms. Check those terms before redeeming.

Are rewards the same as membership benefits?

No. Rewards follow the earning and redemption rules of the rewards program; membership benefits follow the selected plan. Check each program's terms rather than assuming they combine.

See the illustrated rewards setup and redemption guide.
