Promotions

In Loyalty, Promos & Gift Cards

Taplo includes a fine-tuned promotion system that gives you full control over how discounts are applied — automatically at checkout or manually via discount codes. You can target specific customers, products, categories, or entire orders, and set guardrails to prevent discounts from stacking unintentionally.

Finding Promotions

Promotions are managed under the Sales section, alongside Orders and Customers. The Sales section gives you a full view of:

  • Orders — track order history and progress through fulfillment

  • Customers — view and manage your customer base, whether imported or grown organically

  • Promotions — create and manage all active discounts

Creating a Promotion

To create a new promotion:

  1. Navigate to Sales → Promotions

  2. Click to create a new promotion

  3. Enter a promotion name (e.g., "Summer Sale 2026")

  4. Set the status to Active

Discount Configuration

Discount Type

Choose how the discount is calculated:

  • Percentage — e.g., 10% off

  • Fixed amount — e.g., $5 off

Discount Target

Choose what the discount applies to:

  • Entire order

  • Specific products

  • Specific categories

  • Products with a specific tag

Maximum Discount Cap

Set a maximum discount amount to limit how much a customer can save in a single order (e.g., no more than $50 off regardless of order size).

Minimum Order Subtotal

Set a minimum subtotal that must be met before the discount activates (e.g., the order must be at least $10 for the discount to apply).

Application Rules

Automatic vs. Manual

  • Automatic — the discount is applied at checkout without requiring a code

  • Manual (Discount Code) — the customer must enter a code to activate the discount

Exclude Already-Discounted Items

If a product already has a sale price (shown with a strikethrough), you can exclude it from the promotion calculation so it doesn't receive an additional discount on top.

Membership Level Targeting

Restrict a promotion to customers with a specific membership level. This is especially useful for running ongoing discounts exclusively for members — for example, a permanent 10% off all range products for premium members.

Stacking Rules

If you have multiple promotions running simultaneously, stacking rules let you control whether they can be combined on a single order. This prevents edge cases where a customer ends up with many discounts layered on the same order, bringing the total down to near zero.

Usage Limits

You can cap how many times a promotion can be used to prevent abuse or over-redemption:

Limit Type

Description

Per customer

Max number of times one customer can use this promotion

Per order

Max number of times it can apply within a single order

Global limit

Total number of times the promotion can be redeemed across all customers

Excluding Products

If certain products should never receive a discount — such as limited edition items or products with special pricing — you can explicitly exclude them from a promotion by:

  • Selecting individual products to exclude

  • Targeting by category

  • Targeting by product tag
