Lane Setup & Counter Workflow

In Catalog

Taplo allows you to create and manage custom lanes, seats, tables, or any destination type your range uses — and control exactly how orders flow from placement to fulfillment. This feature covers lane configuration, QR code generation, counter management, and order status workflows.

Setting Up Lanes (Seating)

In Taplo, lanes are found under Catalog → Seating. The term “Seating” is used intentionally to be flexible — whether your range calls them lanes, bays, tables, or seats, the system accommodates all of them.

Creating a Lane

  1. Navigate to Catalog → Seating
  2. Click to create a new lane
  3. Enter a name (e.g., “Lane 19”) and a lane number (e.g., “L19”)
  4. Set the status to Active

Importing Lanes

If you have many lanes to set up, you can import them from a file rather than creating them one by one. During onboarding, Taplo will also auto-generate lanes for your facility automatically.

Generating a QR Code for a Lane

Once a lane is created, you can generate a custom QR code directly from the lane settings:

  1. Open the lane you want a QR code for
  2. Customize the QR code style — change the color, dot type, and other visual options to match your branding
  3. Download the QR code as a PNG or SVG
  4. Print it and place it at the physical lane

Tablet Setup: If your range uses a compatible range management system (Rushing Ranges, Action Target, or Range Systems), lanes can also be set up directly on tablets. This requires integration with your range system.

The Counter: Accepting & Managing Orders

The Taplo counter is the staff-facing hub for managing incoming in-lane orders. It is purpose-built for range counter workflows.

What Staff Can See

  • Order timer — how long each order has been waiting
  • Products ordered — a breakdown of what was requested
  • Delivery destination — which lane the order needs to go to

Fulfillment Types

You can configure how orders are fulfilled under Settings → Counter → Fulfillment Type:

Fulfillment TypeDescription
Table ServiceStaff pick up the order and deliver it to the customer’s lane
Self-ServiceCustomer comes to the counter to collect their own order
BothSupports a mix — e.g., premium/members-only sections get table service, general sections are self-service

Order Status Flow

Taplo lets you define the lifecycle of every order. You control how many steps staff go through from the moment an order is placed to when it’s completed.

  • Minimum: 2 statuses (order received → order completed)
  • Maximum: 6 statuses for fine-grained control

Example: 2-Step Flow

  1. Order comes in → status: Paid
  2. Staff taps to acknowledge → status: Seen
  3. Staff taps again after delivery → status: Completed

Example Real-World Workflow (Table Service)

  1. Order arrives on the counter
  2. Staff reviews the receipt and acknowledges the order
  3. Staff picks up the items from inventory
  4. Staff delivers the order to the customer’s lane
  5. Order is marked as completed

Adding more statuses gives you visibility into how long each step takes, helping you track and improve your team’s efficiency across the range.
